Woman Sues Google for Bad Directions

June 7th, 2010 by Jeff

This case should serve as an illustration that common sense is something very rarely found in some people. According to this article at SearchEngineLand.com, Lauren Rosenberg used Google Maps on her BlackBerry to get walking directions to another location in Park City, Utah. Part of the directions indicated that she should walk along Utah State Route 224, which does not have sidewalks, and is a busy four-lane highway. Once Ms. Rosenberg reached Utah State Route 224, instead of figuring out on her own that it might be a bad idea to walk down the street, she proceeded to cross the street in the dark, and was hit by oncoming traffic. As a result, she is suing Google and the driver of the car that hit her for a sum in excess of $100,000.

This story serves as a reminder that whenever you find something online, whether it be directions, blog articles, or advice on how to clean up your computer, you should always use common sense before blindly following anything that you are told. And, if it is offering ways to address any computer issues, please contact Austin Lane Managed IT Services and allow the professionals to weed out the nonsensical ideas from those that provide benefits to the end user.
