Windows 7 on the Way!
July 1st, 2009 by JeffIt is officially the beginning of the end for Windows Vista. The first Release Candidate for Windows 7, the successor to Windows Vista, was released to the public on May 5. Austin Lane has reviewed the earlier release of the beta version of Windows 7, and found it to run faster than Windows Vista on the same hardware.
While Microsoft has avoided talk about the demise of Windows Vista, it is evident that they will sweep the operating system under the proverbial rug as soon as they are able to. Speculation has arisen that Windows 7 will be released and pre-installed on new PCs before the end of 2009. According to trustedreviews.com, Acer, the computer manufacturer, let it slip that Windows 7 will be available on October 23, 2009.
Austin Lane will continually monitor the situation with Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 availability. As with Windows Vista, there are legacy programs that are not compatible, but there is a new XP Mode available in Windows 7 that allows users to run legacy applications in a Virtual Machine under Windows 7 with no additional charge.
