Windows XP Gets 6 More Months
December 4th, 2008 by JeffThe much maligned flagship of Microsoft’s stable of products took another hit earlier this month. According to several sources, Microsoft has extended the availability of Windows XP for another 6 months. Originally, the cutoff date for OEMs, Original Equipment Manufacturers, was January 31, 2009. This latest announcement from Microsoft puts this date at July 31, 2009.
As Microsoft continues to push the cutoff date for OEMs to preinstall Windows XP Professional, it becomes more and more likely that Microsoft will effectively push all those stubborn Windows XP users directly to Windows 7. Here’s a bit of bad news for everyone waiting for Windows 7 to hit the shelves: it is still built on the Windows Vista code line and will contain some of your “favorite” “features” from Windows Vista.
