Vista Capable Confuses Microsoft Executives
February 13th, 2008 by JeffAs some of you may know, Microsoft was sued by a group of people that were upset about the Vista Capable logo program for new PCs. These were PCs that had Windows XP pre-installed before Vista’s public release. According to this ArsTechnica article, even Microsoft Executives were fooled by the program too.
The first thing to understand is the Vista Capable program. This branding program merely denoted that the PC was able to run Windows Vista Basic, which is typically not loaded on new PCs today as it does not include many of the features of other versions of Windows Vista such as Media Center, Aero, and other eye-catching goodies and resource hogs.
One interesting excerpt from the article: ‘Mike Nash, currently a corporate vice president for Windows product management, wrote in an e-mail, “I PERSONALLY got burnt. … Are we seeing this from a lot of customers? … I now have a $2,100 e-mail machine.”‘. It sounds like Mr. Nash is not too happy with Microsoft’s marketing program. Does that mean we should feel better that even Microsoft Executives were confused by Microsoft marketing program, or does this just indicate the level of incompetence of the people running Microsoft?
