One of my favorite quotes from a friend is “No, I don’t have a smartphone.  I’m still using my stupidphone!”.  If you aren’t sure if you have a smartphone or a stupidphone, check out this link to learn more about what a smartphone really is.

Meanwhile, it is important to note that smartphone sales and usage is booming!  A study from Canalys shows that sales are up over 50% worldwide, and up over 100% in the United States.  Mobile phone users are demanding more and more functionality from their phones, and this trend is expected to continue.

Smartphones represent a trend toward device unification.  Who knows, maybe someday our phone won’t even be called a phone anymore since it will do everything from schedule our Tivo, to pay for tickets at the ballgame, start our car and open our garage door!  Any suggestions for what we call that device?
