Internet Explorer and Firefox Keyboard Shortcuts

May 7th, 2007 by Jeff

Do you ever get tired of going back and forth between your keyboard and mouse while browsing the Internet? If so, then I have the perfect solution for you: utilize the keyboard shortcuts for your browser. In this Tech Tip, I will illuminate some of the more important browser shortcuts.

First of all, this information comes from Mozilla Firefox Help. The keyboard shortcuts that I use the most replicate the functionality of the Forward and Back buttons on the browser. If you would like to go Back to the previous page, you could either press “Backspace” or “Alt + <-”. If you would like to go Forward to the next page you could either press “Shift + Backspace” or “Alt + ->” . The symbols I am using with the Alt + key combinations are the left and right arrow keys respectively.

Another feature I use quite often is Find. This will allow you to search the text of the current web page that you are currently viewing. You can do this in both Internet Explorer and Firefox by pressing “Ctrl + F”.

You can add Bookmarks with “Ctrl + D”, view those Bookmarks with “Ctrl + I” in Internet Explorer and Firefox or “Ctrl + B” in Firefox. You can view your browsing History with “Ctrl + H”.

For more shortcuts for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera, please visit the Mozilla Firefox Help web page.
