Greeting Card SPAM — Avoid it

July 18th, 2007 by Jeff

Over the last few weeks, Austin Lane has seen an increase in the amount of SPAM passing through our servers. It turns out that a high percentage of this new SPAM is disguised or spoofed as coming from AmericanGreetings, or another greeting card site like funnypostcards.com. While many people may utilize these greeting card services to send notes to friends, it has definitely become more dangerous to do so.

Several people have opened these emails, and clicked on a link to a website that was in the body of the email. The website in question was only linked to an IP address, and once opened in your browser, will immediately begin downloading and installing Malware such as a worm on your PC. In one particular case, the Antivirus software became very busy, scanning 10 email messages at once.

To top it all off, this round of SPAM and the software that it installs on your system can definitely cause your Windows XP PC to continuously get Blue-Screen Errors.
