Have you ever wondered how today’s software applications protect your data? Have you heard about the latest breach in data security? Has your Social Security Number or other personal information been released accidentally due to a misplaced laptop or hard drive? There is good news! According to Redmond Magazine’s Reader Review article for May 2007, Microsoft’s Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint 2007 have a new “security trimmed” interface where users only see what they have permissions to see.

How does this apply to Austin Lane Technologies, Inc. and ALMobile Suite? Read on to find out more.

One of the major features of ALMobile Suite 2006 and all of its associated products including ALPay, ALTrac, and ALmedSRV is the ability to limit the data that an individual can see. In ALMobile Suite, this is called Data Allocation because it allows the ALMobile Administrator to assign specific data to a specific user.

You may be asking yourself what this has to do with the article in Redmond Magazine. Well, this hot new feature that they are touting as the best feature in SharePoint 2007 has been in Austin Lane’s ALMobile Suite and ALPay for 5 years now. That’s right, Austin Lane Technologies, Inc. has been allowing administrators to specify what data a particular user can see for five years, while Microsoft has only just now included that capability in their 2007 release of SharePoint.

It’s great to see that major software vendors like Microsoft are recognizing that too much access to data can be a bad thing, but we at Austin Lane have already recognized this and implemented this in our products five years ago.
