Apple iPhone Makes Its Debut
July 6th, 2007 by Austin LaneIt is almost impossible to not know that Apple recently released its new iPhone. The market hype has really been outrageous, and the lines at the stores are reminiscent of the last gaming machine release. This review by Brighthand has some very good feedback on just how well the iPhone lives up to the hype, and fills you in on some potential pitfalls. Among the information provided, here is a short list of pros and cons:
Pros
- Touch Screen
- Sleek / Sexy Device - Can Catch Anyone’s Eye
- iPhone Data Plan is Only $20 Extra a Month for Unlimited Data / 200 Text
- Very Easy To Use
- Built In Sensors That Make Using the iPhone Easier
Cons
- Can’t Be Used as a Modem for a Laptop - Yet
- Only Available Through AT&T Currently
- Battery Isn’t Replaceable
- No Flash / Java - Yet
- No GPS
One important factor to note is that since this is a new device, developers will take a while to really catch up and decide whether or not to port their applications to the platform. Austin Lane will keep an eye on this device and its potential for enterprise solutions like ALMobile. Time will tell if Apple has a real paradigm shift established (like the Treo), or if it has hyped up a soon-passing fad. At $599 plus activation (only available from AT&T at the moment), it is quite an investment for even the technophile, but if you like living on the edge it is probably worth taking a gander (gander = “quick look” for the younger techies).
